I'm not seeing many threads on this, my guess is that nobody wants to bet on this piece of shit of an NBA final.
But i am a die-hard NBA fan, basketball has been my favorite sport since i was a teen/twenties in the heyday of the eighties & nineties.
& now i fucking HATE the NBA. These are my problems:
1) that suspension rule for stepping on the court is draconian & is enforced with no consideration for what actually happens on the court. This rule literally cost the Suns their entire season, & possibly the championship. It destroyed what shaped up to be a classic series after the Suns beat the Spurs in their own house game 4. The suspensions were absolutely unjustified, & the NBA leadership obviously did not take into consideration the bigger picture i.e. what the fans think, how it would effect a great series. Clearly the heavies don't give a shit about the product they put out. rules are rules, regardless of the bigger picture.
2) i don't know what to say about the refs. It seems like every game, they call a touch foul, but don't call hard fouls, miss extra steps, & in tight games they effect the outcome. They are totally inconsistent in what they call. Players can't adjust to the refs because the refs constantly change how they call a game. Then you have Joey Crawford challenging, of all people, Tim Duncan to a fight. Are you kidding me???
3) the playoff seedings are a joke, & the conferences are so mismatched now, it's like watching 2 different leagues between the east & west. The east is wretchedly bad, just awful awful awful. Why are the best players in the draft all going west under the circumstances? It's obvious the lottery was fixed to harm boston for deliberately losing. Why not fix the lottery to help the east instead of exacerbating an already bad mismatch between conferences?
4) The NBA needs strong teams in strong sports markets, like New York, Philly & Boston. But these teams are some of the worst in the NBA. It's a total joke that an NBA dynasty is coming out of San Antonio. Gee, wonder why the ratings for the finals suck balls???
5) the best talent in the league ends up on bad teams that cannot put a good team together. Twolves, Celtics, Lakers, Rockets, Nuggets, Sonics, Magic are some examples. so the best players in the league are sitting on the couch during the playoffs. Cavs belong on this list too, & the fact they are in the finals shows how bad the east is.
6) stern is a fucking fiasco of a leader. He decides to replace the leather game ball with a synthetic one without feedback from the players. How in the world do you run an organization & you don't ask the people who attract your fans, that make your money, what they think of the game ball? It's unbelievable.
7) The average NBA player's career ends the moment they sign their NBA contract. They get into the league to get paid, & once they get there, who gives a fuck about the game? there's ho's & drugs to do after the game. Obviously this does not apply to the elite players, but i will simply point out the new york knickerbockers.
Answers to these problems are not easy to come by, but david stern stepping down would be a good start. Drug testing could help clean up the players, maybe they would care to play. & get rid of these awful owners in huge sports markets that are wrecking their franchises, such as charles dolan. Reform the draft by manipulating the draft explicitly instead of secretly. At least fix it so that there's more parity between conferences. Fuck salary cap & luxury taxes - let the big market teams build basketball dynasties with money the way baseball does. & finally, scrap that bullshit suspension rule for stepping on the court & picking your ass. Suspend players that actually fight. DUH!
From top to bottom, the NBA sucks ass. The last 2 NBA finals have been wretchedly bad basketball & the NBA earned it. I am ready to tune out permanently at this point. They only way they can get me back is by hiring hot naked cheerleaders. I'm not expecting feedback on this thread. I'm just a die hard fan that's totally fed up & wanted to vent.
